The SCVMM library adds an important tool to the administrator’s toolkit: virtual machine templates. A virtual machine template enables an administrator to create approved standard virtual machine configurations for subsequent virtual machine deployments. To ensure consistency, templates contain both the guest operating system configuration and the hardware configuration. 1. From the SCVMM Administrator Console, select Library from the bottom left menu. Figure 89 Select Library 2. Under Actions, click New Template. This will launch the New Template Wizard. Figure 90 Actions pane 3. In the Select Source window, select Use an existing template or virtual hard disk stored in the library, and then click Select. Figure 91 Select Source page 4. On the Select Library Resource page, select Blank disk – Large, and then click OK. Figure 92 Select Library Resource page 5. On the Select Source page, leave the default settings and click Next. In this test scenario, you will use an existing template, Blank Disk – Large, that is already stored in the SCVMM library. There are several templates that are included by default with the SCVMM installation. Figure 93 Select Source page 6. On the Template Identity page, type Sample for the Template name, leave the default owner (in this case, CONTOSO/administrator) and then click Next. Figure 94 Template Identity page 7.
